Daily Log 19 May 2011 - When the going gets tough, does the tough get going or does the tough just quit?

DAILY LOG 19 MAY 2011 MUSINGS AND THOUGHTS Today for the first time since I started this journey I am contemplating giving this whole thing up. Triathlons consists of the 3 disciplines of swimming, cycling and running. I am not a natural swimmer, I am not a natural cyclist and I am not a natural runner. By natural I mean that none of these 3 disciplines comes easy for me. I have to work, real hard, in order to get to some acceptable standards of performance in each of them. Admittedly I have gained some level of competence in running but swimming and cycling is another matter. I think most people would have difficulty in attempting to master 1 but to master three of them, all at the same time, seems to me like madness now. I had a bad time swimming at today. My whole form and technique just went out the window. An elephant would have been more graceful and I suspect faster as well. My timing was off. I was crossing the center line with my recovery arm. I couldn't generate any kind of speed at all. I swim nearly 3 (sometimes 4) times a week and this is what I get!!!! Don't worry. Even though I am ranting and raving about giving up. I WON'T. I just have to sit down and reflect and find another strategy because obviously there's something that I'm doing which is not working. When you feel like giving, take a break. Think about what changes you need to make in order to get a better result. If you keep on doing what you're doing, you're going to get the same result. Belief is important (probably the most important). If you belief in yourself (as I believe in myself) then this is the time to grow. For me, I'm just going to lick my wounds and have a great sleep tonight. Tomorrow is a brand new day.

SWIM This swim workout was tough for me (though Coach Saiful say's it's not). The workout consisted of the following: 4x50m warm up 5 sets of the following 2x50m kick drill with fins 2x50m pull with the pullbuoy 2x50m freestyle and 90% effort 1x50m 3 stroke bilateral breathing 1x50m 5 stroke bilateral breathing 4x50m easy cool down Everything was tough for me and I kept dreading the 2x50m 90% effort freestyle. I can only manage a time of 2:40 whilst the others were doing sub 2 mins. There were a lot of issues with my stroke tonight which I have to slowly work though over the next few days. I ca't wait to get back to the pool.
